(Pediatric-Adolescent Diabetes Research & Education)
PADRE Foundation was founded in 1985 by a parent of a child with Type 1 diabetes who discovered a lack of resources for education and support to help them manage the care and well-being of their daughter. In conjunction with pediatric endocrinologists, RNs/Certified Diabetes Educators and nutritionists, PADRE launched a series of diabetes self-management classes and workshops, as well as support events, to help children, teens, parents and caregivers cope with the medical and family challenges of living with Type 1 diabetes.
PADRE’s cost-free programs are open to any child, teen, parent, grandparent, sibling or other important person in the affected child’s life. No one is ever turned away. PADRE’s programs include a range of 75 free education classes, 25 peer support events each year, and weekend youth camps, which help improve the health and well-being of children and teens living with Type 1 diabetes. During 2018, the organization will impact approximately 2,500 families in Southern California who are affected in some way by Type 1 diabetes.
We believe we can inspire kids to lead AMAZING lives until a cure for Type 1 diabetes is found. For more information, please visit www.padrefoundation.org
